Honeymoon packing doesn't have to be difficult. Packing in advance will get you on your honeymoon and into paradise faster.

After tireless months of planning for the wedding, the big event has finally ended and it’s time to officially start your new lives together. Whether you are honeymooning the day after your wedding or if you’ve waited a few months (or years) to take off together, there is no better occasion to take an indulgent, fabulous and utterly luxurious honeymoon to celebrate the both of you. Once the destination is picked and the honeymoon suite is booked under your name you’ve got one more major to-do on your list: pack. Honeymoon packing doesn't have to be difficult. Here are a few tips to help you pack well, stay sane, and sail through your honeymoon with ease.

Pack early

There’s nothing more stress-busting than crossing something off your never-ending to-do list. If you can start planning and packing early you won’t be left running around frantically the day before you leave. Avoid last-minute stress by doing a little research into your airline’s luggage policies and any other health and travel advisories about your destination as far in advance as possible. This way if you need to purchase smaller luggage or get vaccinated before you leave, you’ll have it all covered weeks or even months in advance.

Play doctor

No one wants to think about getting sick on their honeymoon but if you have a little forethought about what could ail you, you can bring some preventative things with you. Pain relievers, cold remedies, allergy medicine, nausea relief, anti-diarrheal meds, aloe, sunscreen, insect repellent and hand sanitizer should be able to get you through most problems that come up—if any come up at all. Look for travel sized bottles of the medicines so you can carry on with you—never check your medicine and keep it with you the whole time.

Take more than one bag

Whether you split your things between two checked bags or one large carry-on and one large checked bag, by splitting your things up between two bags, you will have a backup plan in case a piece of luggage is lost along the way. You’ll still have essentials on hand to help cope until the other bag shows up and you can continue on your honeymoon without too much disruption.

Ring storage

But, but, you just put the ring on. We understand that you don’t want to take off your wedding ring for anything, but when you’re on your honeymoon, chances are you’ll participate in some activities where you will have to (or really, really should) remove your new ring. To prevent anything horrible from happening to them, be sure to bring something to store them in at the hotel so you don’t have to stuff them in your bag as you go. You’ll feel a lot more secure when you know exactly where they are and you’ll know that you’ll still have rings to wear when you get back home from your honeymoon.

Balance is key

When it comes to packing, less is often more. As long as necessities are a part of the mix, everything else can be negotiable. You want to find a perfect balance of bringing what you need but not so much that you’re bogged down. When you pack by outfit you’ll cut out the excess—with specific occasions in mind you’ll never be left high and dry. When in doubt, remember almost all resorts and hotels will have laundry services available.

Carry-on essentials

When you are packing your carry-on bag, be sure to carry your essential travel documents (tickets, visa, itineraries, confirmation, contact information and copies of your passport). If you still have room, you should absolutely include a change of clothes and a bathing suit in your carry-on just in case the unlikely happens and your bags are delayed or lost.

Boredom busters

Delays happen every day in airports and more likely than not, at some point during your travels you’ll have an expanse of time where you need to entertain yourselves. Whether it’s an expected layover or a flight gets delayed you don’t want to get stuck twiddling your thumbs while you wait. Keep boredom at bay with delicious snacks that you actually enjoy versus newsstand peanuts and candy. Always take or download a couple of extra books, crossword puzzles or movies to keep you occupied as well.
